Shortlist announcement: 2024 Hawkeye Publishing Manuscript Development Prize

The Hawkeye team, along with this year’s judges, are thrilled to announce the shortlist for the 2024 Hawkeye Publishing Manuscript Development Prize.

This year, we received 134 entries, 20 of which were longlisted. The shortlist consists of the top five manuscripts, which were real standouts for the judges.

Congratulations to this year’s shortlisted entrants, in no particular order:

  1. Round After Round by Lorena Otes
  2. The Paper Factory by Michelle Troxler
  3. The Sexy Bucket List by Holly Brunnbauer
  4. Unlocked: An Atypical Memoir of Life with my Autistic Son by Porscia Lam
  5. Summer, in Between by Holly Cardamone

We invite you to join us in congratulating these shortlisters and wishing them well for the next stage of judging.

The competition’s overall winner, runner-up and third place will be announced in early April. For up-to-date competition announcements, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter and follow us on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.

The winner of the 2024 Hawkeye Publishing Manuscript Development Prize will receive a prize valued at $3,000 which includes a structural edit by Lauren Daniels of Brisbane Writers Workshop and a line edit provided by Hawkeye Publishing. The remainder of the prize includes a line edit with Hawkeye, and in-person coaching with Carolyn Martinez on where to next.

Feedback for all entrants will be provided after the winners are announced.

We sincerely appreciate our sponsors, without whom the fantastic competition prize would not be possible. Thank you to our sponsor, Lauren Daniels, a highly experienced editor and the Director of Brisbane Writers Workshop, who provides the winner with a structural edit. ‘We’ve had tremendous feedback each year from the writer who’s been afforded the opportunity to work with Lauren,’ said Carolyn Martinez, Director of Hawkeye.

From 2019, Hawkeye has contracted every winner of the Hawkeye Prize.

Hawkeye’s submissions review panel also considers every manuscript that makes the Hawkeye Prize longlist for a trade publishing contract with Hawkeye.

We look forward to announcing the winners in April.
